Women in STEM are awesome. For those of you who don’t know, STEM = an acronym referring to the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. While most people respect and support women in STEM, there are still a select few who are determined to undermine their smarts and hard work.
One of these people happens to be Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Sir Tim Hunt, who made headlines this week for discussing the ‘problem’ with women in the lab. He allegedly said, “let me tell you about my trouble with girls … three things happen when they are in the lab … You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticize them, they cry.”

You’ve misquoted him. What he actually said was this “criticising women for being overly emotional can result in women getting so overly emotional you are forced to resign just to stop the tsunami of emotionally charged tweets and hate mail that get directed your way ….. don’t believe me?….. hold my beer and watch this…”
I bet he’s now sitting in a pub having a beer with Matt Taylor, the scientist man who was forced to apologise to a bunch of hysterical women during the highlight of his career (and a true moment in history) for wearing a shirt they didn’t like which had been made for him by a female friend, which pictures of attractive women on it.
The moral of these stories….. If you are a man, don’t ever say a women’s unchecked emotions can wreck the career of a man, because if you do a bunch of women will get over emotional and wreck your career.
